The Tyler Apartments at Epicenter Sell for $124.5 Million, But Epicenter's Retail Vision Remains the Same
The Tyler at Epicenter has officially changed ownership following the completion of a $124.5 million sale to publicly traded real estate company Camden Property Trust.
The 320-unit luxury apartment community sold for approximately $389,000 per unit, marking one of the more notable multifamily transactions in Gilbert this year.
However, the biggest takeaway for residents, visitors, and local businesses is this:
Only the apartment ownership has changed.
Johnston & Co. will continue to own and operate all of Epicenter's ground-floor retail, remain actively involved in the mixed-use development, and continue leading the long-term vision that has made Epicenter one of Gilbert's premier destinations.
That means the restaurants, shops, events, and overall experience visitors have come to enjoy at Epicenter will continue under the Johnston family's leadership. Camden Property Trust now owns and operates The Tyler apartments, while Epicenter Commercial, led by Johnston & Co., continues to oversee the retail experience.
The original developers, Johnston & Co. and StreetLights Residential, also continue to own the retail portion of the project.
"Epicenter has always been about creating a place where people want to gather, connect and spend time. That vision hasn't changed. Johnston & Co. will continue to own and operate the retail portion of Epicenter, and we're excited to welcome Camden as a partner as we continue investing in this community, supporting our local businesses, and building on everything that makes Epicenter such a special place in Gilbert."
— William Johnston, CEO, Johnston & Co.

Epicenter has quickly become one of Gilbert's most recognizable mixed-use developments, blending luxury apartments with locally owned restaurants, retail, entertainment, and community gathering spaces.
With Camden now owning The Tyler apartments and Johnston & Co. continuing to operate and invest in the retail destination, visitors can expect business as usual—and continued growth for one of Gilbert's most popular places to shop, dine, and connect.
